26th International Conference on Discrete Simulation of Fluid Dynamics

On July 10-14, 2017, four of the HPC-LEAP fellows attended the 26th International Conference on Discrete Simulation of Fluid Dynamics which was hosted in Erlangen, Germany. Topics emphasized at the DFSD conference included lattice Boltzmann schemes, dissipative particle dynamics, smoothed-particle hydrodynamics, direct simulation Monte Carlo, molecular dynamics, quantum Monte Carlo methods, multiparticle collision dynamics and hybrid methods. Our students had the opportunity to present their research at the conference and benefit from the rich scientific environment.

  • ESR1 Alessandro Gabbana presented his work about developing a novel scalable Lattice Boltzmann scheme for the study of relativistic fluids.
  • ESR4 Felix Milan talked about droplet deformation effects in time-dependent flows and its relevance to the multi-scale study of deformable particles in turbulent flows.
  • ESR9 Guillaume Tauzin explained how he is using an entropic Lattice Boltzmann algorithm to effectively employ an LES model for turbulence in the LBM framework.
  • ESR7 Xiao Xue gave an introduction to fluctuating Lattice Boltzmann techniques and demonstrated its effective usage in the case of droplet ligament break ups under thermal fluctuations.
